About Diamond K Kennels

Welcome to Diamond K Kennels, a family-owned and operated kennel located in Freeman, South Dakota. Officially established in 2015, the Krull family built Diamond K Kennels on years of hands-on experience and a shared love for dogs. What began as a small hobby—training a few dogs and raising an occasional litter—has grown into a full-time, family-run business where everyone plays a part in caring for and training our dogs.

We specialize in Pointing Labrador Retrievers, offering professional Gun Dog Training, Bird Dog Training, Obedience Training, Hunt Test Training, Stud Dog Services, and Labrador Puppies. Our mission is simple: to improve the Labrador Retriever breed and develop dogs that excel both in the field and in the home.

Meet Your Trainer - Josh Krull

The spark of Josh Krull's passion began early at just 14 years old, he worked as a professional pheasant guide with his first Labrador, Ginger. That experience set the foundation for a lifelong commitment to training, breeding, and improving the Labrador Retriever.

Since then, Josh has titled numerous dogs, produced healthy litters, and developed a proven approach to gun dog training built on patience, consistency, and communication. With his combination of knowledge, experience, and dedication, Josh is well-equipped to help you develop the dog you’ve always wanted.

Our Training Philosophy

At Diamond K Kennels, we focus on producing well-rounded, confident, and high-performing dogs. We train for and participate in American Pointing Labrador Association (APLA), Hunting Retriever Club (HRC), and American Kennel Club (AKC) hunt tests—ensuring that each dog we handle meets the highest standards of skill and temperament. All of our dogs are registered with the AKC and the United Kennel Club (UKC).

Our home facility is located at 27872 437th Avenue in rural Freeman, South Dakota, featuring the space and structure needed for effective training year-round. Each winter, from January through April, operations move south to Celeste, Texas, just northeast of Dallas—where we’re hosted by Dan and Midge Boettger and their daughter Nicole. This southern training location allows us to continue working dogs in optimal conditions during the colder months.
